Kadol Elephant and Kataragama Devalaya


The "Kataragama Devalaya" is one of the most famous places of worship in Sri Lanka. "Kataragama" Sacred Area is a place of many wonders.In fact, according to historical stories, some stories are related to the Kataragama sacred area.



You have heard about the war of King Dutugemunu.  About the kadol who helped King Gemunu to win. The "kadol" elephant is a native elephant.The kadol eliphent has been holding a coconut in his mouth  for years to avenge the giant Nandimithra. nandimithra saved the elephant during the war. History has it that elephant and removed it at that moment. 


However, would you accept that this great elephant king has a great connection to the Kataragama Sacred Area? 


To this day, the tusks of King gamunu's  eliphent tusks are in the Kataragama Devalaya.What is special is that the tusks of this elephant are still very safe at the Kataragama Devalaya.

 We still get to see this pair during the Kataragama Perahera. Kataragama. This is on display during the festival season.Thus, it is our responsibility to educate future generations about the "kadol elephant" in the history of our country
